authentic original
. It is approximately 182MM X 257MM, the

The flyer has two holes punched in the left side for storage in a ring binder, and two small staple holes between the two larger holes. There are no stains, highlighting, or writing on either side. There are some slight scrape marks along the vertical crease on the front. The paper has even yellowing from age.
The
Totsuko Tapecorder R-1
was first introduced in September 1953 under the
Tokyo Tsushin
Kogyo
company name, aka
Totsuko
for short.
This flyer shows that the Model
R-1
was matched to the
Totsuko F-4 Microphone
, pictured on the front of the flyer in the girl's hand.
The
R-
1 was the first member of the series of
Reduced
models that followed Totsuko's highly successful Portable series. The
Reduced
series consists of the
R-1
(9-1953),
301
(9-1954),
302
(11-1954),
303
(5-1957).
All Tapecorders in the series used
vacuum-tube
electronics, and operated on 100 Volts, 50-60 Hz. The frequency was selected for the local power provider by changing the Tapecorder's capstan and pinch roller. The new series was smaller and lighter, had a single tape speed of
3 3/4 ips
, and used a
5" tape reel
instead of the 7" reel in the Portable series.
