Description
This is a new replica hood for a very rare and little known Funco Wampuskitty. The Wampuskitty Off Road Racing Chassis was designed by Baja and Off Road Race pioneer Gil George at Funco. His Wampuskitty was the first production chassis designed specifically for Off-Road Racing. All others were custom made or modified VW or dune buggy frames. The lightweight tubular frame was based around VW torsion bar rear suspension and a unique and coil over, single A-arm front suspension. Local pickup is free or I will carefully box, pack and ship UPS for a flat rate of 0 for the continental US.I was a dealer for the complete line of Funco chassis including the Wampuskitty', Bandido, SS-1 SS2's. I also built and raced several WK's, SS's and Bandidos during the late 60's and early 70's. Most of the original hoods were damaged or lost as was mine. I was able to locate an original hood and had a plug and mold professionally
fabricated
. I have 2 WK's so made two hoods for myself, as I have 1 WK in process of restoration and another waiting in the wings and I sold two to other hoods to WK collectors and I have this one left at this time.
This hood is an excellent quality, hand laid, one piece product. And again, professionally manufactured and finished in paintable white gelcoat. I added in a front to back stringer in the glass to improve strength. That was a weakness in the original. I am happy to carefully box and ship within the
continental
US for and additional cost. Please contact me BEFORE you purchase if you need it shipped.
Please contact me if you have any questions or need any information. Thanks, Tony
While its revolutionary “A-arm” front suspension was nearly three decades ahead of its time, these forward thinking cars set the groundwork for many generations of winning dune buggies carrying the Funco name. Two
prototype WK's were debuted at the 1968 Stardust 7-11 Race in Las Vegas Nevada.
Only about 35 or 40 Chassis were built during 1968-1971. Only 12 Chassis/cars are known to exist today. They were very light and fast across the desert but had limited success when it came to winning. Revmaster company ran 6 WK's under the name Revmaster Spiders at the 1968 Mexican 1000.
