Blank postal card dated June 18, 1881, from W.N. Zumwalt of Farmer City, Illinois, to A.J. Roberts of Canton, Illinois. In it, Zumwalt complains that he intended to ship the "goods" that belong to Roberts that day, presumably by rail, but is "short of money" and couldn't afford to pay the .50 freight charge. (Farmer City is 97 miles, or 156 km, southeast of Canton).
He asks Roberts to "tell your father I pade (sic) the man one dollar for cleaning out the well (and) he said he would send me that as soon as I would let him no (sic)."
The long and the short of it, Zumwalt concludes: "send the money and I will send the goods."
Prepaid postage. No publisher listed.
Card measures 3" x 5 1/8".
